Phone call-in lines
Listeners ring a real phone number, and you put them on air from the studio.
Getting a number
Phone numbers are set up by AirDeck during early access. Once your show or station has one, the studio shows a Phone tab next to Chat.
When lines are open
- Phone lines open is on automatically while you're live. You can switch it on before the show, or off at any time.
- Callers hear a greeting and say their name and why they're calling. That becomes the caller's name and topic in your queue.
- While waiting they hear your live show (or hold music), and every so often "You're caller number…".
- Up to 10 callers can wait. After 20 minutes on hold, the call ends politely.
The Phone tab
- The badge shows how many callers are waiting.
- Each caller shows their name, what they said, how long they've waited and the last 4 digits of their number. Station admins and owners see the full number.
- Edit lets you or a producer fix the name and add notes.
- Put on air brings the caller into your mixer as PHONE 1 or PHONE 2, with its own fader, mute and meter. They're in the stream and the recording.
- Hold sends them back to the queue. Hang up ends the call. Voicemail lets them leave a message instead. Block stops that number calling this line again.
What callers hear
Callers hear you, your guests, the music and jingles, but not themselves. Up to 2 callers can be on air at once; they don't hear each other yet. Phone audio is levelled automatically so it sits close to your mic.
When nobody is live
Callers can leave a voicemail of up to 90 seconds (or hear a closed message if voicemail is off). Voicemails appear at the bottom of the Phone tab and are deleted after 30 days.
Fair use
The same number can call up to 5 times in 10 minutes.
Tips
- Wear headphones so callers don't hear an echo.
- Use Chrome or Edge on a laptop for the best phone audio.
